Fourth of July in Montecito is pretty fun: a parade, a party and nighttime trek down to the beach to (sort of) see fireworks.
It was the summer of teeth falling out all over the place...
...and friends coming through town. It's the best when your kids become friend with the kids of your friends from college.
We took the kids to San Francisco for the first time with Leah's Dad.
Some serious Giants fans were born.
Then we roughed it in Malibu with Jan and Jeff.
Leah's brother moved closer (Newbury Park) which meant more cousin time and some time with G'ma Zipper.
It was the summer when these two were inseparable.
We went camping as a family for the first time. Roughing it on the beach with some of our favorite people converted us into a "camping family."
Clara was nervous about starting kindergarten, the day before school began Leah and Clara took a special trip down to the beach.
Mama will hold that memory in her heart — forever.
